Blink is a documentary film by award-winning director Elizabeth Thompson, exploring
the story of Gregory Withrow, a former leader in the white racist movement in
California. Wounded in childhood by his bitter, alcoholic father, a member of
the American Nazi Party, Withrow grew up to see himself as a warrior against evil.
He joined the Ku Klux Klan, founded the White Students Union, and rose to prominence
under the mentorship of White Aryan Resistance founder Tom Metzger. But after
the death of his father, and after meeting a woman who challenged his beliefs
and gave him his first experience of tenderness, Withrow renounced racism and
left the movement. He began studying eastern and western religions, and speaking
against racism. He eventually married a Latina. He also became a media sensation,
appearing on talk shows such as Donahue. But the effort of transforming himself
into a new person remains a daily struggle.
